The Music
"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.”
- Aldous Huxley -
The
Music
Each chapter in the novel is a song from the jukebox. A character in and of itself, the jukebox at the local dive bar is a lifesaving conduit for Harper and Grace, who frequently escape to Ernie's and use the old, rusty music box to send messages to one another. When spoken words were impossible, they use it to flirt, to tease, and to fight—sending fiery arrows across the smoky bar through the speakers. Music was an integral part of the novel and will be for the screen adaptation, too.
